エイジングが進んだ「ペッセカヌー・ラタキア20」と「ペッセカヌー・ラタキア40」の愉しみ方。
How to enjoy 2 and a half years aged “Pesse Canoe Latakia 20" and “Pesse Canoe Latakia 40”.
当店には凡そ2年半以上熟成が進んだ、「ペッセカヌー・ラタキア20」と「ペッセカヌー・ラタキア40」がある。これらは、ペッセカヌーシリーズが日本市場へ上陸した時の初回ロットなのである。
We have Pesse Canoe Latakia 20 and Pesse Canoe Latakia 40, which are aged around 2 and a half years. They were the 1st lot when the Pesse Canoe series was introduced in the Japanese Market.
これらのパイプたばこが「出来立てホヤホヤの時」、吸い熟すことはあまりにも困難であった。かなり厚めなフレイクカットであり湿度がオーバーウェットなので、着火してから火種を安定させるまでに手間がかかるからである。だが、それだけではない。繊細なたばこ葉を使用しているが故に、ダンピングすると灰が細かくなってしまい、粉雪状になる。あまりにも細かいので、煙道を塞いでしまいやすいのだ。
It was so difficult to smoke these pipe tobacco “easily” when they were “fresh". Because each piece of flake was so thick and over-wet, needed light up again and again. Plus, when tamping down, ash was like powder snow. It often disturbed air way.
あれから凡そ2年半。バージニアやオリエントの熟成が進んだおかげで、深みと上品さが増したのだ。それだけではない。湿度が乾燥気味になったのだ。
Around 2 and a half years had passed. Time is like magic, well matured virginia and orient are so elegant and have intricate taste. The most important point is its humidity. It's so dry.
その結果、着火しやすいだけでなく、普段通りタンピングしても灰が粉になりにくくなったのだ。奥深い香喫味だけではない、気軽に愉しめるのである。
とはいうても、このシリーズにおいて1枚のフレイクは、たばこ葉がかなり凝縮されており密度が高い。一度の喫煙でどのくらいたばこを使用すれば良いか分からない、という愛煙家も多いだろう。という訳で……
鈴栄商店的、熟成が進んだペッセカヌーの詰め方を紹介したいと思う。
What has changed? Not only deep and delicate taste. Thanks to its humidity, it's easy to light up. It's ok to tamp down “normally”, no worries to see powder snow.
Nevertheless, Each flake is so thick and has high density. A piece of flake for medium size pipe is too much. It's difficult to distinguish quantity. So let’s share “how to pack aged Pesse Canoe based on Suzuei-style"!
今回使用するパイプは、ミディアムサイズのものよりも少々小ぶりなパイプ。火皿の直径が約18mm、深さが約34mmのものを使用する。
This time, I would like to use this pipe. It's smaller than a medium pipe, the diameter of the chamber is around 18mm, the depth is about 34mm.
1枚のフレイクはかなり密度が高い。これを丸ごと使うのはあまりにも多すぎる。
A flake is so thick and high density. A Flake for this pipe is too much.
なので、繊維の方向に沿って約3mm剥がそう。(ミディアムサイズのパイプの場合は約5mm程が目安)
So, let's strip them off about 3mm.(If you use a medium size pipe, strip them off about 5mm.)
一辺がボウルの直径よりも少し小さい位になる様に折り畳んでしまおう。
Fold them gently. The key point is that one side is lil' bit shorter than the diameter of the chamber.
そのまま火皿へ突っ込んでしまおう。その後、タンパーを使用してタイトめに押す。この時点で、たばこ葉は火皿の約半分を占めている状況だ。
Put them into the hole. Then, tamping down tightly. Tobacco is filled around a half of the chamber.
火種用に、凡そ1mm剥がそう。
Let's peel off about 1mm.
剥がしたら、細かくもみほぐした上で、タイトめに押し込んでしまおう。最終的に7分目程まで詰まっていればオッケーです。
Then rub them out and pack them tightly. Tobacco fills around 70 % of the chamber.
燃焼温度に気をつけながら、愉しもう。喫煙時間は2時間弱位が目安。
Let's smoke and relax! It takes 1 and a half hours to 2 hours.
