愛煙家の皆様もご存知の通り、昨年ロバート・マコンネルシリーズで、ダンヒルのパイプたばこを再現したシリーズがデビューした。しかし、名前が余りにも似ていたため、裁判沙汰となり一時的に市場からあっという間に姿を消した。今日やっと、名称変更されて日本市場に再デビュー♪当店も入荷予定であるが、それはもうちょい先の話♪余りにも名前が変わりすぎたため、どれがどのダンヒルに当たるかが余りにも分かりづらい。そこで名前の由来を勝手に考えることによってそれぞれを覚えやすくなるのではと考えたのだ(笑)あくまで自分勝手過ぎる解釈である。独断と偏見に満ち溢れているので、参考程度に鼻で笑いながら読んで欲しい(笑)

Where these names came from? Let's figure out based on my prejudice ;-)

As you know, clones of Dunhill from Robert McConnel had debut and stand out on the market last year. However, these names were too similar, that's why they lose a lawsuit and disappeared. At last, they are re-born! They are available in few weeks I guess. They changed their name too much so it's difficult to find which fits each dunhill tobacco. In this blog, I would like to figure out each origin of name based on my prejudice. So just reference purpose only. This is part 1.

Marylebone = My Mixture 965 

バージニア、キャベンディッシュ、オリエント、ラタキアのブレンド。ラタキアの香喫味、オリエントのアロマが心地よい。キャベンディッシュの甘さが肝のイングリッシュミクスチャー。

Blend of virginia, cavendish, orient and latakia. Smoky taste of latakia and aroma of orient make you feel calm. Natural sweetness of cavendish is a key of this English blend.

名前の由来:メリルボーンは郊外のような雰囲気のある高級住宅地で、コナン・ドイルによって描かれた名探偵、シャーロック・ホームズの住居があるベイカー・ストリートがある地区である。謂わばパイプスモーカーにとって聖地といっても過言ではない。それが故に、パイプスモーカーにとって定番であったこのブレンドにこの名前をつけたのであると考えられる。

Origin of its name: Marylebone is Mecca for pipe smokers! It because Baker Street is located there! As you know, Baker Street is a place where Sherlock Holmes lived. Original My Mixture 965 was one of the most popular and famous blend all over the world. That's why this blend is named after this holy place.

※ちょっとしたこぼれ話

ドイツ市場で一番最初にこのたばこが登場した時、商品名が"Marleybone"となっていた。この名前はオンラインゲームであるWizard101に登場する地名で、たばこメーカーが綴りを間違えたものであると考えられる。さすがに不味いと思ったのか、ホームページの情報が2週間後に更新されていた。逆に言えば、商品名を直さなければならないほどこの商品名は重要なものであった、もしくは思い入れがあったということになる。全く違う商品名を使っていかにオリジナルの商品を連想させやすくするか。私は、たばこメーカーの苦悩と愛を感じずにはいられなかった。たばこ製品を売る人間としてこの想いを大切に持ち続けたいと思う。

*Side story of Marylebone

It was different name when this blend had appeared in Germany market. It was named "Marleybone". "Marleybone" is a place in a online game "Wizard 101". About 2 weeks later Its name changed into "Marylebone". I guess they missed spell so they had to fix. In other words, Its name itself was so important for this product. I think it's difficult work to use different name, not similar to original name but it should be easy to remember it.
