This blog is one of the new projects which I would like to review for each tin of vintage tobacco in our stock. Vol.1 is "Planta Anno MMXIII Californian Dream" . This tobacco had its debut in 2013. So It means that it has been aged for 7 years.

This tobacco is a blend of virginia, burley, and black cavendish, flavoured with orange. I really love this package design of the tin, the golden gate bridge on the left and californian beach on the right. As you know, Planta was acquired by Mac Baren. So this tobacco is one of their legacies.

今回のブログは、当店で長期熟成させたパイプたばこレビューするという新しい企画である。記念すべき第一回目は、プランタのアノー2013・カリフォルニアンドリーム。名前の通り、2013年に限定たばことして市場にデビューした商品である。つまり、およそ7年にわたって熟成されていることになる。果たしてどのような味わいになっているのか？ブレンド内容はバージニア、バーレー、ブラックキャベンディッシュで、オレンジのフレーバー。缶のパッケージデザインは、左側にゴールデンゲートブリッジ、右側にビーチの様子が描かれている。プランタがマックバーレンに買収された今、このパイプたばこはプランタが残した遺産と言うべきものになっているであろう。

When I open the tin, a fruity orange aroma is still there, with sugar crystals on the leaves. Well fermented aroma of virginia makes me relax. It's mixture rather than ribbon cut with great humidity. 

缶を開けると、オレンジのフルーティーなアロマが残っていることが分かる。たばこ葉の表面には結晶化した糖分がついている。これはバージニア葉の熟成が進んだ証。その香りに思わず私はうっとりしてしまう。湿度も丁度いい具合である。

Rubbing out gently then put tobacco into my favourite pipe called "Tsuge Tasting Pipe 21" based on "3 steps method". The point is to pack them lil roughly, cuz its humidity is lil wet.

丁寧に揉みほぐして、3段詰めにする。もちろん使用するパイプは「ツゲテイスティングパイプ21」。やや湿りぎみのたばこなので、少し緩やかに詰めることがポイント。

When I light up the bowl, the first puff is like magic.  A fruity orange aroma is on the top but so gentle, not too strong. In the 2nd half of a puff, well matured virginia is so sweet. On the other hand, the sweetness of black cavendish is in the background. Its taste changes even in a puff, as if a secret incantation is chanted.

着火すると、最初の一服が魔法のように思える。はじめにオレンジのフルーティーなアロマを感じるが、強すぎない。なんというか柔らかさを感じる。その一服の後半には、熟成されたバージニアの甘さが際立つ。一方で、ブラックキャベンディッシュの甘さは奥底で下支えしている印象だ。たったの一服の中で味わいが変化する。その喫味の移り変わりは魔法にかけられたかのよう。

From the 2nd half of the bowl, the natural taste of tobacco leaves gets stronger. The sweetness of black cavendish and fermented taste of virginia. The flavour of orange is a supporting actor for them.

1ボールの後半になるにつれて、たばこ葉本来の味わいが強くなる。ブラックキャベンディッシュの甘さとバージニアの熟成感。オレンジのフルーティーな香りは名脇役といったところか。

This blend is not so strong. So you can enjoy this tobacco, no matter when. In my opinion, I would like to enjoy this tobacco with dry ginger ale, or gin tonic at night.

このたばこはそんなに強くないので、好きな時間帯に愉しめる。個人的には日没後、ジンジャエールドライもしくはジントニックを片手に味わいたい。
