9-month-aged Rattray's Stirling Flake is great for the hot summer season, don't you think?

パイプに関する不思議について思ったことをエッセイ風に書く、誠にしょうもない企画。第二弾は「およそ9ヶ月熟成されたラットレースターリングフレイクは夏の暑いシーズンには良いかもしれない」。夏は暑い。あまりにも暑いのでバテてしまうことが日常だ。特に、最近はマスクをする機会が多いので尚更である。そんな時は「強い刺激」が身体をシャキッとさせてくれるだろう。一般的にはキンキンに冷えたビールを連想するかもしれないが、たばこ屋らしく「ラットレー・スターリングフレイク」をお薦めしたい。このブログは筆者自身の考えに基づいているのであくまで参考程度にお読み頂けたらと思う。

このたばこはラットレーシリーズの中でもかなり強いたばこである。ブレンド内容は興味深いもので、バージニア、バーレー、ケンタッキーが同じ割合でブレンドされている。缶を開けたときに感じるのは、バージニアの熟成感と豊かな土壌お思い起こさせるスモーキーなケンタッキー。ラットレーシリーズのなかでもこのフレイクはしっとりとしていて厚い。

This blend is the strongest in Rattray brand. It's a blend of virginia, burley, and kentucky, equal amounts of each. First impact of a tin note is matured virginia and earthy and smokey kentucky. This tobacco is flake cut and so thick and wet.

着火すると感じるのは、ケンタッキーの力強い喫味。独特のビターさと豊かな土壌を彷彿させる味わい、それを支えるかのようにバージニアの甘さを一服の後半に感じる。バックグラウンドにはナッティなバーレーの香喫味。ニコチンの強さが夏バテで疲労困憊な身体に染み渡る。

When light up a bowl, in the first puff, the main character is bitter and earthy kentucky, the supporting actor is the natural sweetness of virginia. There is a nutty burley taste in the background. Nicotine is so strong and it makes me recover from summer heat.

このたばこはやや湿度が高いので着火し辛さがあるが、一度種火が安定してしまえば燃えやすい。よって燃焼温度を上げないようにまめなダンピングとふき戻しを意識すると良い。

This tobacco is wet so it is difficult to light up, however once fire is stable, easy to burn. So it's very important to do tamper work and blow.

個人的考えであるが、強いたばこには強いお酒が合うと思う。熱帯夜にロングアイランドアイスティーを片手に愉しみたいものだ。この夏をこのたばこで乗り切ろう！

In my opinion, strong tobacco fits a strong cocktail. I would like to smoke this tobacco with a glass of Long Island Ice Tea on a summer night. Let's avoid suffering from summer heat with this blend!
