Look back at the past for now. Vol. 2

人生において、時に過去を振り返ることは重要である。人は過去から学び、行動するのだ。また、時々思い出に浸ることで生きるというモチベーションを保つことができる。要するに人は前へ進むために振り返るんだ。振り返るということは、前へ進もうと頑張っている人のための特権なのだ。

Sometimes it's important to look back at the past. We, humans, learn something from the past then take action. It can keep our motivation to be alive through the memories. To look back is a right for persons who move forward, work hard to the future.

今回のブログのテーマは、過去に存在したパイプたばこに焦点を当てる第２弾である。そうすることで、改めてパイプたばこの奥深さを再認識し、今後においても喫煙を愉しむためのヒントが見つかればと思う。

In this blog, I would like to focus on tins of pipe tobacco which are no longer available at Japanese market vol. 2. This blog is for finding a key to have fun for "our life" right now.

今回ご紹介するパイプたばこは、ダンヒル・マイミクスチャー・BB1938。今回紹介するBB1938は元々、「ベイビーズボトム」という名前であった。元は「セイボリー」というロンドンに存在したたばこ屋のオリジナルブレンドで、ダンヒルが買収した後に、「マイミクスチャー」の一つとして1938年に発売されたらしい。

In this blog, I would like to introduce Dunhill's BB1938. It was originally named "Baby's Bottom" produced by Savory. After Dunhill had purchased Savory, Dunhill had released "My mixture Baby's Bottom" in 1938.

ブレンド内容は、バージニアとラタキア。バージニア葉の甘さが味わいのメインキャラクター。ラタキアはあくまでそれを盛り上げるためのシーズニング(調味料)。今回紹介するものは2016年8月に製造されたロットである。凡そ4年半の間にどのように熟成が進んだのか見物である。

This tobacco is a blend of virginia and latakia. The main character is the natural sweetness of virginia, latakia is just seasoning for the sweetness. This tin was produced in August 2016. So this tobacco has been aged for around 4 and half years.

缶を開けると感じるのは、ラタキアの薫香。バージニア葉は干し草の様な香りを放つ。エイジングの過程で、ラタキアの香りがとんでしまうことはよくあるが、このブレンドははっきりとラタキアのアロマを感じる。

The tin note is smoky latakia with hay like virginia. Aging is difficult because sometimes latakia aroma disappears in the process of aging. I am so lucky, this tobacco still has wonderful latakia flavour!

着火するとすぐに感じるラタキアのスモーキーさ。だが、ラタキアはすぐに脇役に徹する。ラタキアは時に、「ひんやり感」を与えてくれる。そのお陰で、煙の舌触りがシルキーに感じさせてくれる。それだけではない。バージニア本来の甘さがさらにフルーティーに味わえる、フルーツの中でも糖度が高いものの様な。1ボールを通して香喫味は一定と言える。それにも関わらず、飽きが来ない。比較的マイルドなたばこなので、四六時中喫煙していたくなる。

The first light is an opening act, smoky latakia flavour clearly appears. Soon it changes into the main show. Latakia acts as a supporting actor. Also, latakia makes me feel cool. That's why smoke has silkiness and the sweetness of virginia is like sweet fruit. Its taste and aroma are stable through 1 bowl however it never makes me feel bored. This blend is so mild that I wanna smoke it all day.

日本市場において、ピーターソンのラインナップは現在、マイミクスチャー965、ロイヤルヨット、ナイトキャップ、アーリーモーニング、フレイクである。さらに、3月頃、エリザベサンミクスチャー、スタンダードミクスチャー、デラックスネイビーロールズが加わる予定である。春よ来い。そう願うばかりである。

In Japanese market. There are 965, Royal Yacht, Nightcap, Early Morning and Flake. In March, Elizabethan Mixture, Standard Mixture, and De Luxe Navy Rolls are going to join our market. I am looking forward to them. Spring is coming soon.
