Look back at the past for now. Vol. 3

人生において、時に過去を振り返ることは重要である。人は過去から学び、行動するのだ。また、時々思い出に浸ることで生きるというモチベーションを保つことができる。要するに人は前へ進むために振り返るんだ。振り返るということは、前へ進もうと頑張っている人のための特権なのだ。

Sometimes it's important to look back at the past. We, humans, learn something from the past then take action. It can keep our motivation to be alive through the memories. To look back is a right for persons who move forward, work hard to the future.

今回のブログのテーマは、過去に存在したパイプたばこに焦点を当てる第3弾である。そうすることで、改めてパイプたばこの奥深さを再認識し、今後においても喫煙を愉しむためのヒントが見つかればと思う。

In this blog, I would like to focus on tins of pipe tobacco which are no longer available at Japanese market vol. 3. This blog is for finding a key to have fun for "our life" right now.

今回ご紹介するパイプたばこは「オールドブルージュバニラ」。ベルギーのたばこメーカー、フランドリアの製品である。ベルギー伝統のレシピに基づいてブレンドされた、謂わば「地たばこ」。バーレーベースにバニラのアロマ。刻みはシャグカットに近い。

In this blog, I would like to introduce Oud-Brugge Vanille from Flandria. This tobacco was produced based on a traditional belgian recipe. So I think that this tobacco is "local tobacco". This blend was a burley based blend with vanilla flavour.

昔のベルギー人はこれを小ぶりなクレーパイプに詰めて、喫煙を愉しんでいたのであろう。パッケージデザインは、二人のおっさんが駄弁りながら喫煙している。左のおっさんがパイプを指差しながら喋っている様子なので、きっとたばこの話をしているのだろう。

Probably old belgian smokers used to enjoy this blend with a lil small cray pipe. Package design shows 2 guys smoking cray pipes while crossing a bridge. Guy on the left side points with his finger to his pipe. So I think that they are talking about pipe tobacco while walking.

小さめなパイプに詰めて吸ってみる。すると、感じるのはココナッツっぽさを伴うバニラの優しさフレグランス。そして、バーレーのナッツ感。かなり軽い味わいなので、気軽に愉しめる。カットが細かいので、手巻きたばことして愉しむのもあり♪その時は、スモーキングのメイズで巻いてみよう。面白い味わいになるはずだ。

Put this tobacco into a small bowl of my pipe. First note is sweet vanilla fragrance with coconut and nutty taste of burley. This blend is so mild that I want to smoke it no matter when. This tobacco is so shaggy, so……why don't you roll with Smoking Maiz paper?

残念ながらこのたばこは、およそ6年程前に廃盤となってしまった。当店の在庫も最後の1個である。

「地たばこ」という概念で考えれば、コーネル&ディールのたばこは面白いものが多い。その中でもオススメなたばこは、「バーボンブルー」。バージニアとペリクのブレンドで、バーボンウイスキーのフレーバー。カットはクランブルケーキである。クランブルケーキは、一度カットしたたばこ押し固めたもので伝統的な製法のひとつ。手でちぎってちょっと解すだけで、かなり細かいカットになる。そういうわけで、小さめなパイプで喫煙することがオススメ。因みに手巻きたばことして味わっても面白い。

"Local tobacco" is so fun. Especially…Bourbon Bleu by Cornell and Diehl. It's a blend of virginia and perique with a fragrance of bourbon whiskey. This tobacco is a crumble cake so once you rub them out, each piece of tobacco becomes small. To use a small pipe is recommended. Also, you can enjoy this tobacco as hand rolling tobacco.
