ロバート・マコンネル・ヘリテージシリーズの種類の多さには毎度ビックリさせられる。ダンヒルがパイプたばこの製造をやめたタイミングで登場したシリーズである。合わせて18種類あるが、これらはダンヒル主要銘柄を再現したものであると言われている。

Robert McConnel's Heritage Series are so fantastic. They had debuted when tins of Dunhill pipe tobacco disappeared. In total, there are 18 blends. They seem to be "clones" of Dunhill blends.

「灯台もと暗し」という諺があるように、名品はこの集団の中に隠れているのではないか、ふとそう思った。人間、選択肢が多すぎると逆に選ぶことに困ってしまうのである。そういう場合は、大抵無難にメジャーな銘柄を選んでしまいがちである。そんな訳で、「意外な銘柄」を試してみようと考えた。

爽やかなアロマは時にバージニア葉の甘さをこんなにも盛り上げてくれる。後味の檸檬の様なすっきり感は、飽きさせないための魔法。特に、アツい夏の夜には、麦酒を片手に味わいたいものだ。

Sometimes a refreshing aroma makes the natural sweetness of virginia stand out. Aftertaste is like the magic of "makes pipe smokers forget to be bored", it feels like fresh lemon. Especially on hot nights in summer, I wanna enjoy this blend with a bottle of beer.

缶を開けたときの香りは、熟成されたバージニア葉のアロマと爽やかな檸檬。爽やかな檸檬のフレーバーは主張が強くないが存在感がある。一瞬メンソールが入っているのではないか、と疑ってしまうほど爽やかさがある。アフリカ産のバーレーはほんのりとナッツの様な、又ビターチョコの様な香気を放つ。カットは程よく解された、レディラブド。

The tin note is matured virginia with fresh lemon. Refreshing aroma of lemon is not so strong but there… as if it contains just a hint of menthol. Burley leaves from Africa are nutty or something like bitter chocolate.

着火すると感じるのは、爽やかな甘さ。バージニア葉の熟成が進んだ甘さは、檸檬のアロマのお陰で、後味が爽やかである。奥底に感じるのは、わずかにビターさを伴うナッティなバーレー。ブレンドのバランスは勿論のこと、このたばこが醸し出すアロマは独特で面白い。例えるならば、甘さがしっかりとしたアイスレモンティー。中盤から終わりにかけてバージニア葉の甘さとバーレーのナッティ感が強くなるが、それでも爽やかさはしっかりと感じられる。

Once I light up the bowl, soon I feel a sweet taste with a refreshing note. Thanks to lemon aroma, matured virginia has a deep and the sweet taste, refreshing taste in aftertaste. In the bottom, there is a nutty and lil bit bitter taste of burley. This tobacco has a beautiful balance, its aroma, and room note are unique. It's like cold sweet lemon tea. From the middle of the bowl to the end, the natural sweetness of virginia and nutty burley become strong but refreshing flavour still remains.

1ボールの中で移り変わる香喫味は、ニュアンスに近い細かい変化である。燃焼温度によって変化してしまうくらい、繊細さを持つ。普段よりもゆったりと喫煙及び吹き戻しを心がけること。そうすることで、バージニア葉の甘さと爽やかなフレーバーが奏でるメロディ、ナッティさのあるバーレーの伴奏に気付くことができるはずだ。

このたばこは比較的ミディアムなので、日常使いとして好きな時間に愉しめる。個人的には、休日のお昼過ぎキンキンに冷した軽めな麦酒のお供として味わいたい。(私のオススメは"Tecate"か"Sol")

"Change" through one bowl is so sensitive. Its taste easily changes through combustion temperature. The key to enjoying this blend is "slowly". To smoke slowly and to blow slowly wins the race…to feel the melody of the natural sweetness of virginia and refreshing flavour of lemon, with an accompaniment of nutty burley. This blend is medium, it's great for daily smoking. In my opinion, I would like to enjoy this blend with a bottle of lite beer on a holiday. (My favourite is "Tecate" or "Sol".)
