ロバート・マコンネル・ヘリテージシリーズの種類の多さには毎度ビックリさせられる。ダンヒルがパイプたばこの製造をやめたタイミングで登場したシリーズである。合わせて18種類あるが、これらはダンヒル主要銘柄を再現したものであると言われている。

Robert McConnel's Heritage Series are so fantastic. They had debuted when tins of Dunhill pipe tobacco disappeared. In total, there are 18 blends. They seem to be "clones" of Dunhill blends.

「灯台もと暗し」という諺があるように、名品はこの集団の中に隠れているのではないか、ふとそう思った。人間、選択肢が多すぎると逆に選ぶことに困ってしまうのである。そういう場合は、大抵無難にメジャーな銘柄を選んでしまいがちである。そんな訳で、「意外な銘柄」を試してみようと考えた。(パート1は下記リンクをクリック♪)

A proverb came into my head. "The darkest place is under the candlestick.." Soon I thought that a wonderful blend hides in this group. We, as humans, often confuse if there are too many choices. そこで、ロバート・マコンネル・バーキンロードを掘り下げようとおもう。当店の在庫のものは製造されてから、3年の月日がたった。そろそろ「食べ頃」だろうなぁ、と考えたのである。

Hence, in this blog, I would like to review Robert McConnel's Barking Road. All of the tins of Barking Road in our stock are "3 years old", so I thought that it was the best time to smoke. 

では早速レビューしてみよう。

ウッディさを伴うビターさと熟成感溢れる甘味。そして、後味に残るフローラルさを伴う豊かな芳香。このパイプたばこは、「時の魔法」のお陰でこんなにも奥深い香喫味になっている。

Bitterness has a woody taste, on the other hand, the sweetness is a result of well fermented leaves. Aftertaste is exotic aroma with a somewhat floral scent. Time is like magic, that's why this blend has a deep and full taste.

缶を開けるとはっきりと判る、熟成が充分に進んだレッドバージニアの香り。ほんの僅かだが、ブライトバージニアはほんのりと爽やかさを伴うフルーティーさを持っている。豊かな土壌を彷彿させるアロマはケンタッキー。後の方に僅かに香るのはオリエントの芳香。カットはやや細かめなリボンカットで、湿度の具合はやや湿り気味である。

The tin note is a miracle. Well matured red virginia with a pinch of refreshing and fruity aroma of bright virginia. Earthy fragrance is kentucky. There is a hint of exotic flavour of orient. This tobacco is fine ribbon cut and has humidity.

若干タイトめに詰めて着火する。すると広がるのは、ウッディさを伴うケンタッキーのビターさ。熟成が充分に進んだバージニアはどこか優しさを感じさせてくれる甘さである。後味に残るフローラルさをもつオリエントのアロマは、余韻を愉しめる。

Pack them tightly into a bowl. From the first light, a duet of woody kentucky and well fermented virginia has a bitterness and sweetness. Aftertaste is the floral scent of orient.

後半になるにしたがって、バージニアの甘味が一層強くなるが、ビターなケンタッキーは健在だ。ケンタッキーの主張が強すぎないにも関わらず存在感がある。

The sweetness of virginia crescendo from the 2nd half of the bowl however woody kentucky is noticeable. Kentucky is like a key person in a detective novel.

このブレンドは比較的にニコチンが強めであるので、満足感のある喫煙を約束してくれる。夕食後の喫煙がオススメ。個人的には、肉料理を食べた後、バーボンロックを片手に味わいたい。(私のオススメは豚のしょうが焼きとワイルドターキー・ライ)

This blend promises zesty smoke because it has strong nicotine. It's great to smoke it after dinner. In my opinion, I would like to enjoy this tobacco with a glass of bourbon whiskey on the rocks after eating a meat dish. (My favourites are grilled ginger pork aka shogayaki and Wild Turkey Rye)
